Pismo
I was driving through Pismo Beach last Sunday, and decided to stop at
the pier. Looking out, the sea was wind-whipped and sun-drenched, but
mostly calm — much to the disappointment of the surfers bobbing in the
waves.
There were two kiteboarders out on the water. They were using the high
wind for all it was worth, slashing through the sea and catching air
off the tops of waves, like BMX riders, but wetter. I
so want to do this sometime.

Lots of birds flying, or trying to fly, in the high wind. Many were
just hanging in air, enjoying a stationary vantage above it all. This
gull gave a look, wondering why we weren't up flying with him.
("I want to learn to fly like that," Jonathan said, and a strange light glowed in his eyes. "Tell me what to do.")
